Hansjorg has been teaching as a visiting tutor at the Drama Department, Goldsmiths College since 1996. Since, he has build up a comprehensive and successful lighting design course at undergraduate level, and has introduced lighting workshops and lectures across the department’s postgraduate courses. Running alongside his teaching work, Hansjorg has been instrumental in initiating and overseeing the refurbishment of the department’s technical resources, culminating in the refurbishment of the 180 seat Goldsmiths Theatre, working closely with Roger Hennigan at White Light Projects on the installation of new ETC sensor dimmers, rewire to 16A circuits throughout, Unison and Strand lighting control systems and new communications and electrical flying facilities.

Hansjorg has been closely involved with the college’s widening participation work, running lighting classes and workshops for young people from a variety of backgrounds. As part of his widening participation work, Hansjorg has been collaborating with local schools across South and East London to advice on the development and management of their lighting resources, culminating in a television documentary on lighting Oliver! at Bishop Challoner’s School in Shoreditch, broadcast on Teachers TV spring 2005 (‘The School Play’).

For the l’ouverture trust, Hansjorg has developed and run a Saturday lighting course targeting young people from local schools, written up a curriculum for a six-month course, and assisted l’ouverture in establishing links with the lighting industry to promote work placements. For Haberdasher Aske’s Hatcham college, he runs regular lighting master classes, with a view to students joining a performing arts department when moving into higher education.
