Architecture & Events

Hansjorg is a graduate of the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London, holding a MSc in Built Environment: Light and Lighting. He is very interested in bringing his theatrical experience to the built environment, and his consultancies and projects so far have reflected this: At Goldsmiths College, temporary installations to light the main college façade and the Presentation ceremonies were defined by infusing existing installations with some theatricality, adding dynamism and excitement to permanent installations by introducing carefully selected theatrical and architectural fixtures, and working closely with the clients to ensure a flexible and user controlled system that can change and adapt to the differing questions asked of an installation.

Hansjorg is currently working with Heart ’n Soul to develop a lighting installation for the Beautiful Octopus Club at the Albany, exploring ways to use lighting to provide a coherent visual style across all spaces of the venue, and to aid visitors’ orientation, developing a ‘luminous map’, identifying routes around the building through colour and luminous intensity.

Mirroring his growing interest in architectural lighting projects, Hansjorg has started to use luminaires and technology used in the built environment in his theatre work, and to this end has built up good working relationships with two architectural lighting companies, Enliten and Universal Fibre Optics, asking both to supply site-specific theatre projects. Paul Simson at Enliten supplied Hansjorg with Calisto architectural luminaries to create a unique look for open air performances at the Scoop / More London Riverside. For the theatre-rites production, Hospitalworks, Hansjorg worked with Calum Tait at UFO to provide a tailor made fibre optics installation, transforming the venue at Maydays Hospital in Croydon and providing a stunning centre point for the production.
